PRESERVATION LTD GAIN CONTINUED INVESTORS IN PEOPLE RECOGNITION
Cambridge based Anglia
Property Preservation Ltd. (APP) has successfully gained continued
recognition with the prestigious Investors in People Award for the
third time.
Established in the 1960's
APP has built its business steadily through a growing reputation
for quality workmanship, expertise and honesty. It has a loyal and
experienced staff with many boasting over 25 years service.
Training has always been a given a high priority in the Company
but in 2001 the Directors decided to formalise their staff
development programme by achieving Investors in People
recognition. It was felt that APP's commitment to staff training
would reflect positively on the quality of service provided to
customers, through improving both practical and administrative
skills."
In fact, APP was the first
member of their Trade Association, Property Care Association
(formerly the BWPDA,) to gain the IIP award in their sector.
Following their commitment the Company was one of just three
organisations selected by BBC2 to feature in a documentary
programme on staff education and its impact on workforce
efficiency.
Since that initial
recognition in December 2001, APP has continued to meet the IIP
standard at reviews in 2005 and again most recently in May of this
year, with APPs key strengths being listed as an 'Open, supportive
and caring culture' with 'Ownership at all levels' and an
'excellent range of development opportunities'.

CAMBRIDGE BASED ANGLIA
PROPERTY PRESERVATION LIMITED CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF TRADING
In September 2007 Anglia
Property Preservation Limited celebrated 40 years of trading in
Cambridge. The Company was incorporated in 1967 and for five years
business was run from a one room office but by the early 1970s
they had purchased their present premises, a former builders yard,
from where they have operated ever since.
In 1973 Keith Barker joined
A.P.P. as a trainee surveyor, the business continued to grow and
in 1984 Keith was appointed as Technical Director of the company.
In 1981 Keith passed the CTIS exam, gaining a credit, and then the
CRDS exam in 1986 again gaining a credit. In 1986 he went on to
pass the health and safety module of the CSRT exam also with
credit making him one of only three people in the UK to gain the
CSRT qualification with credit in all three modules. Jon Dyer
joined the company in 1996 assisting with the accounts management,
and in 1998 Jon was appointed as a director of the company
The key to APP's success is
a combination of specialist knowledge, years of experience and the
right attitude to our work. We work very closely with many of the
established builders, architects and estate agents to ensure that
treatments are carried out properly, quickly and with the minimum
of disruption. We maintain a computerised property index detailing
every property treated since 1967 and all properties surveyed
since 1975. As far as we know we are the longest established firm
in this area. We have surveyed over 35,000 properties and treated
nearly half that number.
Inspections are made by one
of our qualified and experienced specialist surveyors, who each
have more than thirty years' experience in the industry. We
produce comprehensive reports that cover both the preparatory and
remedial work to be carried out by the client, and our own
estimate for treatment work to be carried out by us.
APP are members of the
Property Care Association (formerly the BWPDA) and all work is
carried out in accordance with its strict code of practice.

NOMINATED FOR BUSINESS EXCELLENCE 2001 AWARD
Anglia Property
Preservation, a Cambridge building firm has been nominated for
the prestigious Business Excellence 2001 award, organised by the
Cambridge Evening News. The firm has been put forward for an award
in the Business Training and Staff Development category following
their recent achievement of the Investor in People standard and
the Company's appearance in a BBC2 documentary.
Director Keith Barker
said, "We are delighted to have been nominated. Our staff
have worked very hard over the last couple of years to get us to
the standard for Investors in People and this nomination is a
wonderful bonus."
The Company were
recently featured in the BBC2 Learning Zone documentary due to
their innovative approach to employee learning. "We are
always sorry to see staff move on," explained Keith, "but
if they do feel it's time to go, we like them to take away more
than their last month's salary and a leaving card, we prefer
working with us to have been a step forward for them in terms of
their education as well."
The policy has paid
dividends for the company as they have recently announced record
turnover and a substantial rise in profitability, which they
attribute to improved employee confidence and much improved
efficiency. "We encourage all employees to feel they have a
stake in the Company," explained Finance Director Jon Dyer, "it
has been an extremely successful policy for us, and one we remain
committed to. We have taken on two new members of staff as a
result of this growth and are looking forward to another excellent
year. This nomination is entirely down to the workforce and they
should be justly proud of themselves."

SPECIALIST FIRM FIRST TO
GAIN
INVESTORS-IN-PEOPLE
A Cambridge firm has
just achieved recognition of its commitment to its customers and
employees by gaining the prestigious Investors in People Award,
with the assistance of Cambridgeshire Business Link.
Anglia Property
Preservation Ltd. (APP) was established in the 1960's and has
built its business steadily through a growing reputation for
quality workmanship, expertise and honesty. It has a loyal and
experienced staff with many boasting over 15 years service.
Training has always been a given a high priority in the Company
but last year, directors Keith Barker and Jon Dyer decided to
formalise their staff development programme by achieving Investors
in People recognition.
"The purpose of
following IIP was not simply to gain a prestigious logo to put
on our letter headings" said Jon. "We felt that our
commitment to staff training should reflect positively on the
quality of service we provide to our customers, through improving
both our practical and administrative skills."
In fact APP was the
first member of their Trade Association, the BWPDA, to gain the
IIP award in their sector. Following their commitment the Company
was one of just three organisations selected by BBC2 to feature in
a documentary programme on staff education and its impact on
workforce efficiency. "The other two selected organisations
were the Army and the Big Issue Magazine, now a significant
commercial concern, so we were in quite illustrious company",
continued Jon. The programme - The Learning Zone was broadcast in
October of last year.
As part of the IIP
programme a number of employees have improved their skills and
expertise in fields such as computer technology and general
problem solving. The Company has a policy to support its people in
any extra training they care to take, from basic literacy to
computer network administration. "We are not really too
concerned if the training is sometimes not directly relevant to
their job", said Jon. "We believe that all education is
good and that by helping people in this way we give them the
incentive to provide a better service for our customers, no matter
what job they do. Too many small business owners and managers
still regard the money they spend on staff training and
development, as expenditure, not investment. At the end of the day
it is our staff who have gained this fantastic achievement through
their own hard work and they all richly deserve this recognition
of their efforts."
Their IIP award was
presented recently by the Chairman of Cambs. Business Link
providers Cambridgeshire Business Services' Stephen Hampson.
Business Link provides support for the government- sponsored IIP
award scheme to small/medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in
Cambridgeshire. Their figures prove that organisations, which have
embraced the IIP principles, consistently out-perform their
competitors who have not. The IIP scheme focuses on developing a
business's success through investment in its people, the benefits
of which are felt on the bottom line. It is a practical tool kit,
concentrating on results not procedures, for the continuous
improvement of the whole organization. They regularly see a range
of benefits appearing, as firms work towards their IIP award; such
as improvements in quality and customer service, reduced costs and
stock levels, better internal and external communications and
increased staff commitment and loyalty. A research study by the
Institute of Employment Studies proved the point by comparing a
number of key business performance ratios, between IIP awarded
companies and averages of other similar businesses. When they
compared productivity ratios, profit-per-employee for the average
sample was £2,229 while IIP firm's staff turned in a massive £18,583
each. With performances like this it is no surprise that employees
in IIP firms tend to be higher paid, better qualified, more
flexible, more content and therefore much more loyal.
